A card shop in Keswick which was forced to close in December due to a damaging leak is nearly ready to re-open.
Parts of the shop ceiling collapsed, everywhere was either damp or soaked through, and stock including Christmas trading items were ruined.
Proprietor Gillian Ania told the Reminder that since then it has been a long and complicated process to sort out everything.
“Keswick residents and businesses have had their fair share of this – from clearance, drying and repair, through to cleaning, redecoration, and refit,” she said. “It’s incredible that eight months have now passed. And the number of different bodies and individuals you have to liaise with is just as incredible!
“To name but a few: insurance loss adjusters, damage assessors, stock valuers, stock clearers, industrial ‘drier-outers’; accountants, landlord, utility providers, and all suppliers to cancel forward orders, and latterly, local removers, builders, electrician, joiner, decorator, carpet fitters and all the suppliers again, to re-order.
“I am pleased to say that we are nearly there. The premises are starting to look good again, my wonderful staff have been pricing up endless boxes of cards and other items, and next week we will be putting it all back together – and planning our grand reopening.
“There will be a raffle, spot prizes and surprises, and music in the courtyard.”
