A couple who have transformed a village pub into a thriving community resource and tourist destination have been presented with the West Cumbria Camra Pub of the Season award.
Since taking over behind the bar at The Sun Inn, Bassenthwaite, in September 2021, Stuart and Lynn Briggs have made a real difference considering that they had no previous experience in the licensed trade.
But the award primarily celebrates the top quality of their hand pumped real ales.
The couple actually met by chance in the pub when Lynn was on holiday and Stuart was working at the nearby Armathwaite Hall Hotel.
As soon as they took over they opened the pub during the day, as for the previous 10 years it had traded on restricted hours. They do a special senior citizens’ lunch on a Thursday, a monthly quiz night and a special six monthly quiz with proceeds going to mountain rescue.
