A husband and wife team have established their Keswick guest house as one of the foremost places to stay in the world.
TripAdvisor has once again recognised Portland House, which is run by Colin and Sarah Sproule, as being among the Best of the Best and have presented the couple with a plaque to prove it.
Rave reviews from satisfied customers had earned the six-bedroom establishment a Best of the Best accolade for two years running – the award means the guest house is rated in the top one per cent in the world by TripAdvisor assessments.
A letter from John Boris, chief growth officer with TripAdvisor, said: “With travel demand resurging the competition has been stiff and you have evolved to meet ever-changing consumer expectation.
“To be named among the Best of the Best means you are part of a very exclusive group – among the top one per cent of TripAdvisors global business listings this year.”
Colin and Sarah moved to Keswick four years ago this week and had no previous hospitality experience before taking on the B&B.
“We have strived to create a friendly, welcoming home-from-home atmosphere – we enjoy what we do and try to give our customers a great experience whilst visiting Portland House area,” said Colin. “We have updated and improved Portland House since our arrival, and have met some lovely people – many guests becoming regular returners.
“We must be doing something right as we have been rated in the Top 20 Best UK B&Bs for the past two years – the only B&B in Keswick to retain this award – and have again achieved this Best of the Best TripAdvisor Award for the second time.
“We have also been consistently rated as the number one B&B in Keswick and the surrounding area for the past 12 months plus.
“We like to think our reviews speak for themselves, and the feedback we receive from our guests gives us a sense of pride that we are getting it right.
“Our fresh fruit salad is always being mentioned in our reviews – its reputation precedes itself and many guests who return say it is outstanding.”
