Cricket leagues in Cumbria have agreed to the principle of a pyramid structure for clubs in the county, starting in 2025.
The Cumbria Cricket League, the Eden Valley League and the Westmorland League have all held separate meetings with Cumbria Cricket, the county arm of the ECB (England Cricket Board) and now all clubs, players, officials, representatives of the various leagues, umpires – in fact anyone with an interest – are being invited to a series of ECB roadshows to be held in the county at various venues from September 18 to 25.
The management committee of the Eden Valley League (actually in favour of a more radical pyramid than that now being proposed after ECB discussions with the various leagues) met on Monday and after the meeting, league chairman Mike Mitchelson issued a statement to all EVCL clubs in which he re-iterated that the three leagues involved had “all agreed in principle to a pyramid system across the county”.
And he added: “Our thoughts are still that it could be a positive move for clubs and players throughout Cumbria.
“There is still work to be done on the detail of the structure. It is the intention that the roadshows will help with that work and the decision-making process. This is a huge opportunity to shape cricket in the county for many years to come.”
The roadshows are being held on the following dates and venues:
September 18, Workington CC; September 19, Carlisle CC; September 20, Barrow CC and, finally, September 25, Netherfield CC (all 7pm to 8.30pm).
