Keswick Music Society’s 76th season of concerts will feature some of the UK’s very best professional musicians.
It begins on Saturday October 28 at St John’s Church with the exciting Alkyona String Quartet. The concert will feature music by Haydn, one of Purcell’s fantasias, two short 21st century pieces by living women composers – the delightful Strum by American composer Jessie Montgomery and The Smile of the Flamboyant Wings by the Bulgarian-British composer Dobrinka Tabakova. The programme will conclude with a characteristic string quartet by Benjamin Britten.
Following this in November and January, the society has been fortunate to attract two of the country’s greatest pianists – the brilliant Lara Melda who won the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2010 and the internationally renowned Dame Imogen Cooper.
“We can expect a real connection to the audience from the Alkyona String Quartet and vivacious performances which are as vibrant and memorable as their kingfisher namesake,” said Keswick Music Society Chair Mary Cooke. “It’s quite something to be able to attract such distinguished and talented musicians to come and perform for us here in Keswick. Hearing them play live in the wonderful acoustics of St John’s Church will be such a treat. We’re really looking forward to all three concerts.”
Seats for all individual concerts can be booked directly with the Theatre by the Lake Box Office by phone (017687 74411 or in person, and via the Theatre by the Lake website). Tickets will also be available on the door.
