Members of a dance troupe from Keswick have taken to the internet to make people smile and to say a big thank you to NHS and keyworkers through their performances on You Tube recorded in the girls’ back gardens.
Skye, Lucy T, Holly, Isla, Saffy, Lucy H, Olivia and Elise are students at the Marie Francis School of Dance (MFSD), which would usually train in the Keswick Methodist Church hall in Southey Street each week.
However, since the country went into lockdown nearly eight weeks ago the troupe, which has around 50 students between three and 16, has had to learn new routines via the Zoom app under the guidance of dance teacher Melanie Preston. An adult class, which Melanie was about to begin, has now had to go on hold.
Melanie said: “I have recorded a few dance routines which are on my Facebook page and we do have live sessions. But I knew a lot of the girls were down in the dumps so I came up with the routine for Brand New, by Ben Rector, which they learnt then recorded in their own homes or gardens. The aim was to make everyone smile and feel good in these uncertain times.”
All the recordings made by each student were sent to Melanie who edited them to create the two-minute video which can be viewed on You Tube at this link: https://youtu.be/iv2i7Cs9eg8.
