An illegal off-road vehicle driver is believed to be responsible for “significant” damage that has been caused to a remote bothy in the northern fells of the Lake District.
The Lingy Hut at the Back o’ Skiddaw, which is owned by the Dalemain estate and maintained by the Mountain Bothy Association, appears to have been rammed and the door to the structure badly damaged.
A report on Facebook says that the ground surrounding the hut had been “churned up” which was “consistent with an off road vehicle having been driven at speed around the hut” colliding with it and causing the damage.
Police are investigating the incident after it was reported by the association.
