Eye care in Keswick has been brought into sharp focus with the joining of forces of two independent opticians in the town.
Smith & Butterfield Optometrists, in Southey Street, and Kirkbride Eyecare, Museum Square, have made the far-sighted decision to merge resources.
The businesses will continue to trade from Smith & Butterfield’s practice on Southey Street and their joining together will allow patients to continue to receive an advanced level of eye care.
All patient records from Kirkbride Eyecare, including contact lens details and supply, have been safely and confidentially transferred to the new premises at Smith & Butterfield Optometrists.
Patients from Kirkbride Eyecare will also be able to take advantage of an extensive frame selection at their new location, as well as the latest state-of-the-art equipment and enhanced services.
Paul Smith, director and dispensing optician at Smith & Butterfield Optometrists, said: “We have an experienced team of four optometrists, including Stephen Butterfield, one of the previous directors.
“This is a great opportunity to combine the two practices and continue offering a friendly and personalised eye care service five days a week.
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming the former Kirkbride Eyecare patients. We hope that they will feel reassured that their eye care needs will be in safe hands with a like-minded independent practice.
“Merging the two practices will ensure that all patients will continue to receive an excellent level of eye care at a practice that is still within Keswick town centre with the added benefits of state-of-the-art equipment and, as the two practices have previously had a close working relationship, we are confident that we can continue to provide the high standard of care that our patients expect.”
The practice at Smith & Butterfield can trace its history back to 1926 when it was first established by William Cowen to care for the eyes of the local community. Paul Smith and his wife, Susan, took ownership following Katharine Butterfield’s retirement in 2018.
Smith & Butterfield Optometrists look forward to welcoming all existing and new patients to the Southey Street practice.
