Town council planners have objected to a proposal to build a bungalow in the rear garden of a Keswick property because of its overbearing nature and impact on neighbouring properties.
Councillors heard that the owners of 29 Latrigg Close wish to construct a single storey annex with private access at the back of the property to provide housing for their children.
But a report to the February meeting of Keswick Town Council said that the planning group were of the opinion that it would impact on neighbouring properties with over development of the area and loss of light, shading and privacy properties.
“If the project went ahead we would at least as a minimum want a local occupancy clause and a covenant to not allow holiday letting,” said the report.
Town Council chairman Steve Harwood declared an interest as the development would back onto his property. He left the meeting while the application was discussed.
The meeting also heard that the planning group had supported the operation of a temporary campsite in Church Lane for three weeks during July and August for people attending the Keswick Convention. They also gave their support to the proposed erection of a lean-to porch and provision of new patio doors at the rear of West View, The Heads, Keswick.
The conversion of a carport into a new front entrance and habitable space at 2 Shu Le Crow Gardens in Keswick also found favour. This application also involves extending the rear wall to the property boundary, removal of an unused chimney, replacement of window in dining room to aluminium sliding door with heritage double-glazed uPVC sliding sash window with eight single-glazed wood sash windows to be replaced with heritage double-glazed sliding sash windows,
Councillors also supported a retrospective application to replace a sash window in the lower hallway of Shelley Cottage, Chestnut Hill, Keswick.
