Smouldering signage on the outside of the Cancer Research premises in Keswick’s Main Street set off smoke detectors and alerted firefighters from the town and Cockermouth shortly after noon on Wednesday last week.
Crews used a thermal imaging camera and hand tools to strip off the boards and extinguish the fire which caused an upstairs room in the shop to become smoke-logged.
Nobody was in the building when firefighters arrived and the cause is unknown. Firefighters returned to their stations at 2pm.
