A couple who run a north Lakes hostelry have applied for a premises licence to run a micro-pub in Keswick.
Steve and Jenny Brown, who have managed The Royal Oak at Braithwaite for the past two-and-a-half years, have plans to open the new venture called Beer Please in the former Kat’s Kitchen premises on Main Street.
It all hinges on whether the premises licence, relating to the sale of alcohol and provision of regulated entertainment, is accepted by Cumberland Council, the licensing authority.
Mr Brown said that the plan is to open the micro-pub, which he estimates could seat around 50 people, on the August Bank Holiday weekend. It will sell local and national beers, but the couple do not plan to serve food to begin with.
They are currently leasing the property with an option to purchase. Mr Brown said that the musical entertainment was likely to be acoustic. The couple will be staffing the micro-pub with their current employees, but Mr Brown was keen to stress that before they can go ahead licensing permission needs to be granted.
The proposed times when licensable activities are to be provided is from noon to 11pm Monday to Sunday with regulated entertainment allowed to take place from 7pm to 10pm Monday to Saturday and 2pm to 6pm on Sundays.
