A programme of deep cleaning of Keswick’s town centre streets was due to begin by Cumberland Council with work expected to last two weeks.
The crews will be focussing on removing chewing gum from the pavements and pedestrianised areas along with engrained dirt using jet washers and mechanical sweepers to make the whole area more welcoming for locals and visitors.
The streets which will be cleaned are:
- The town centre area starting at St John’s Street.
- The town centre area of Lake Road.
- Finish at A5271 end of the pedestrianised area.
To minimise disruption to the public and local businesses, the work will be carried out with the council’s specialist equipment and with the relevant traffic management and crews will also be mindful of market days.
A spokesman for Cumberland Council’s Neighbourhoods Team said: “Jet washing inevitably creates a lot of spray and the team will be taking extra care when
working close to shop fronts.
“The work will be broken down into sections, providing an opportunity for the team to check back, inspect and act as necessary to ensure frontages are clean and tidy, before they move forward to the next stretch.”
