Speculation is rife that part of a new Bridget Jones’s Diary sequel called Mad About The Boy is being shot in the Keswick area.
Rumours abound on social media that filming taking place at Thirlmere, Borrowdale and the base of Catbells is for the fourth instalment of the saga.
Production vehicles have been spotted parked up at Keswick Rugby Club but officials contacted by The Keswick Reminder were remaining tight-lipped after signing non-disclosure agreements. They have also been spotted at Thirlmere and there have been reports of bright lights illuminating the bottom of Catbells.
Publicity material for the new film says that American actress Renée Zellweger will return in the role of Bridget Jones and she will be dealing with having a baby and exploring internet dating as well as reuniting with an old flame. The film will also star Hugh Grant and Leo Woodall. Most of the filming is expected to take place in London.
The new film is rumoured to be based on Helen Fielding’s 2013 novel, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy. This follows Jones as a 51-year-old single mother to two children in the modern era of social media and dating apps.
Of course Renée Zellweger is no stranger to the Lake District having starred in the 2006 film Miss Potter which was based on the life of children’s author and illustrator Beatrix Potter. The film premiered at the Royalty Cinema in Bowness.
Last month the Reminder reported that a new Netflix drama believed to be called Missing You was being filmed by Quay St Productions around the Keswick area. Filming had taken place at Manesty Park, on the shores of Derwentwater and along the A66.
It followed the arrival of a number of production vehicles and a catering van at the Rawnsley Centre car park next to the Derwent Pencil Museum.
And only last week the Reminder reported that a new short film called EVOL, featuring television star Amelia Clarkson, is set to be shot during the first week of August in the Keswick area.
