Average speed camera technology is to be installed at four locations along the A66 between Dubwath and Cockermouth (Lamplugh roundabout).
National Highways project manager Carly Fawcett said the move followed a detailed review to improve safety on the highway and reduce harm to road users.
“We’re always exploring ways to improve safety on our roads,” she said, adding: “This work is currently expected to begin in autumn and complete by early 2025.
“We’ll share exact dates once these are confirmed. Work to install these cameras will be carried out overnight, or during off peak day time hours, to keep disruption to road users to a minimum.”
