Another north Lakes parish council has held back on proposing a vote of no confidence in the Lake District National Park Authority.
Members of St John’s Castlerigg & Wythburn Parish Council said they were minded to support the Lakes Parish Council in its vote of no confidence in the LDNPA.
But it was agreed that members would like to give the LDNPA a chance to enter into communication with the parish council over issues of concern such as fly parking, visitor management and lack of consent for car parks.
If no response is received from the LDNPA about these concerns then it was agreed that the clerk table a vote of no confidence for the September meeting of the council.
The motion of no confidence in the LDNPA was supported earlier this year by members of Lakes Parish Council – which covers Ambleside, the Langdales, Rydal and Grasmere – who had concerns around tourism and the cost of housing as well as maintenance responsibilities being neglected, failure to enforce planning conditions and the promotion of unsustainable commercialisation.
Members of Borrowdale Parish Council noted the vote of no confidence and it was agreed that a letter be sent to the LDNPA confirming that councillors were not in support of the action taken by their colleagues on Lakes Parish Council. But the letter will make it clear that Borrowdale Parish Council does agree with a number of points made by Lakes Parish Council.
