A significant rockfall has closed a Lake District road.
The emergency road closure was put in place on on West Road, Thirlmere, between Launchy Gill and Rough Crag following the rockfall at Rough Crag earlier today, October 21 by Cumberland Council.
The authority said the closure had been implemented to ensure the safety of all road users and pedestrians in the area.
Cumberland Council said it was currently assessing the situation, to evaluate the extent of the rockfall and potential risks to the surrounding environment.
The road will remain closed until further notice, with updates to follow as more information becomes available.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area if at all possible. A diversion is in place on the A591.
