A Covid-19 mobile testing unit is returning to Keswick for three days from tomorrow (Tuesday).
Operated by Armed Forces personnel, the Department for Health and Social Care unit will be at the former pencil factory site in Keswick from Tuesday 2nd to Thursday 4th June). The temporary walk-in, drive-through testing site had previously been run at the site late last month.
Mobile testing units have an integrated one-way system that allows those with an appointment to attend for either walk-in or drive through testing. The self-test involves taking a swab sample from the back of the throat and inside of the nose. People are being advised to pre-book an appointment for the Covid-19 test, essential workers are given priority.
The eligibility criteria for tests has been extended to include:
- Anyone aged five-years-old and over with symptoms
- Any essential worker with symptoms.
- Members of the household of essential workers who are symptomatic

The former pencil factory site is owned by Keswick Ministries, the organisation that runs the annual Keswick Convention. Murray Lawrie, facilities manager at Keswick Ministries, said: “We are pleased that the site continues to be used as a testing station. We’d like to thank the management of the Pencil Museum who have also supported these measures.”
