The biggest independent chain of hotels in the North Lakes is hoping to lead a local economic recovery by re-opening for business on Saturday 4th July.
Lake District Hotels Ltd runs six separate accommodation sites, including three in Keswick town centre, all of which have been closed since March because of the Government’s coronavirus lockdown.
Its flagship premises – the Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa in Borrowdale – had only been open 16 months since the completion of a hugely-ambitious redevelopment and expansion, costing £13 million.
Now all six hotels are set to end what will be a 15-week shutdown by welcoming back customers on the first weekend in July, with bars and restaurants trading again and accommodation re-opened.
“We’ve had an overwhelming response to our hotels hopefully reopening on 4th July, with bookings starting to come in from that date onwards,” said Dani Hope, director of Lake District Hotels. “We’re certain this will have a positive impact on all the other businesses in our area, such as cafes, shops and pubs too, to get the local economy flowing once again,” she added.
A free glass of bubbly will be served on arrival for guests who book stays in July and August at any of the company’s three Keswick businesses – the Inn on the Square, The Skiddaw Hotel and the King’s Arms – or the Borrowdale Hotel and the Inn on the Lake at Ullswater, which it also owns.
Sixteen steps have been taken to ensure the safety of staff and customers when the hotels re-open. These include social distancing, sanitiser stations and protective screens. Staff will also be wearing PPE.
