Moira Robinson, who spent most of her life in Borrowdale, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday night (15th June) in Dumfries and Galloway Infirmary after a sudden illness, not related to the coronavirus pandemic.
Moira spent most of her life in Borrowdale being brought up in Mountain View, Seatoller, near the foot of Honister Pass, and attending Borrowdale School then Keswick School.
She trained as a secretary in Carlisle and married Kenneth Robinson in They initially lived in Grange-in-Borrowdale before moving to Troutdale Bungalow in the valley in 1965 where she lived until after her Kenneth’s death in 2005.
Moira worked in Keswick at the Cumberland Pencil Mill and the Co-op in St John’s Street before spending several years employed at the surgery operated by Dr Mitchell, Dr Turnbull and Dr Hamilton in Station Road. She then went on to work for the Forestry Commission in Helvellyn Street and later at its site at Peil Wyke, Bassenthwaite. Before retiring she and Ken helped run the campsite shop at Scotgate in Brathwaite.
Her hobbies were cooking, knitting and sewing which she enjoyed exhibiting and won many prizes at local flower and craft shows.
Moira is survived by her two sons and her three grandchildren. Her funeral will take place at Carlisle Crematorium on 6th July – the family have asked that donations, in lieu of flowers, should be made to Moira’s favourite charity, The Great North Air Ambulance Service.
