Allerdale council has appointed Andrew Seekings as its permanent chief executive.
Mr Seekings has been interim chief executive since 11th December and his permanent appointment follows a recommendation made by the chief officer’s employment panel, a cross-party group of councillors and ratification by full council yesterday.
The report from the panel was moved by Councillor Marion Fitzgerald. She said: “I personally have no hesitation in asking council to support the recommendation because he has proven himself to be a hugely capable lead officer in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.”
Mr Seekings said: “I am incredibly proud of being offered the post, I only wish my mum and dad were still around to see it and celebrate with me and my family.
“Over the past seven years I have worked with amazing colleagues and inspirational leaders who want the best for their communities and I will now lead the officers to deliver the council’s ambitious plans.
“COVID-19 has meant that we have had to adapt to new ways of working, support business and protect our most vulnerable residents. This is at the heart of good local government and I focus all my energy on improving lives and build on Allerdale’s reputation as the best place to live, invest and visit.”
Mr Seekings joined the council in May 2013 and is currently the council’s electoral registration and returning officer.
