Superstar Taylor Swift’s new album features a track dedicated to the Lake District.
The American singer-songwriter, thought to be worth around $400 million and who has more than138 million followers on social media platform Instagram, released Folklore last month, which she recorded during lockdown.
It is currently number one in the UK charts and features The Lakes as a bonus track.
It makes a number of references to the Lake District from Windermere (Those Windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry) to the Lakes Poets (Take me to the Lakes/Where all the poets went to die) including William Wordsworth.
On another track called Invisible String she sings “Bold was the waitress on our three-year trip/Getting lunch down by the Lakes/She said I looked like an American singer.”
It is believed that this could hint at a visit to the Lake District that she has made with her boyfriend Joe Alwyn whom she has been dating for three years.
In December 2012, Taylor, who has sold more that 50 million albums during a glittering career, was photographed with her then boyfriend Harry Styles feeding the swans on Bowness pier on a mini-break to the area to celebrate her 23rd birthday.
Gill Haigh, managing director of Cumbria Tourism, said: “Taylor Swift is a fantastic performer and anyone familiar with her output throughout her career will know that her style is as diverse as the opportunities offered by the Lake District itself.
“As a world-class singer, it’s a perfect fit to hear her singing about this world class landscape. Am I surprised she chose to sing about Windermere? Yes and no!
“Taylor is obviously a very well-travelled singer and I’m sure she will have been inspired by countless places, but we’re thrilled that Windermere made such an impression.
“We know she was here a few years ago and we very much hope to welcome her back in the future.
“The song is as relaxing as the national park itself and I’m sure the recognition will be warmly received by everyone who shares her views!”
