People living in the Keswick area are being asked to have their say on Allerdale Borough Council into the introduction of a Public Spaces Protection Order.
A PSPO allows the council to issue fixed penalty notices against people who allow their dogs to foul in public without cleaning up afterwards.
The two-week consultation will end on 26th August.
The council is looking for information from respondents about where in the borough they live, whether they think dog fouling has a detrimental effect on their community, if it has a direct impact on their day-to-day life and if it is increasing or decreasing in their area.
It is essential that any order includes exemptions for those who are unable to clean up after their dog.
The council would also like comments with regards to whether there are any instances in which an exemption can be made.
Councillor Tony Markley, Allerdale’s executive member for environmental services, said: “We know how important having clean streets and communities are to residents right across the borough and as a council we take our role very seriously.
“Dog fouling is a common complaint from residents and our teams work hard to not just to clean it up but to fine those who allow their pets to foul without clearing it away. If you want to help us continue to do this then please provide us with your feedback.”
Residents are reminded to report incidents of dog fouling through the myAllerdale mobile app or the ‘report it’ section of Allerdale Borough Council’s website.
