Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team marked its 50th birthday with its volunteer members creating a special celebration on Saturday night – out on the fells!
Working with Lakeland Mountain Guides, which organises the stunning series of Keswick’s Festival of Light events every year, 30 volunteer rescuers took to the Langdale Pikes carrying lights to recreate a stunning image of the iconic logo from the team’s website.
The celebration was filmed for the BBC One Countryfile Programme, which is set to be broadcast on Sunday 27th September.
The original celebration had been planned as a public event in collaboration with Lakeland Mountain Guides before the current COVID-19 restrictions were put in place, but this had to be cancelled.
It was decided to go ahead with the plan, but using team members. Lakeland Mountain Guides director Matt Le Voi said: “There were some 40 people on the mountain, almost all members of the team. It was, as you would expect, a seamless event.
“Images were produced by some of our area’s best photographers from various vantage points to create the logo image.”
