A couple who had planned to tie the knot in the Lakes tomorrow have had to postpone their nuptials despite their appeal for a registrar to marry them getting a great response after it appeared on the Keswick Reminder’s website.
Yesterday, Kirsti Taylor and Jonathon Bates, from Wakefield, made an urgent appeal for a registrar to marry them after getting all their plans in place to wed at The Inn on the Lake, Glenridding, tomorrow after taking a last-minute cancellation.
But despite getting a volunteer registrar to perform the ceremonial duties they had to postpone until October 25th because Cumbria County Council was unable to provide anyone to write up the register and there were not enough register books to go round because of all the weddings taking place this weekend.
“We had a great response to our appeal with people willing to be registrars contacting us from Staffordshire and another from Bradford,” said Kirsti’s mum, Julie Taylor.
“We have had to postpone until October 25th.
It will still go ahead at the Inn on the Lake but they have had to reduce the numbers going to 15 which means there will be no bridesmaids, usher or best man and Jonathon’s two brothers and his sister cannot attend.”
The wedding had originally been planned for June but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
More than 50 people were due to attend that ceremony including friends and cousins.
“Hopefully everything will now go to plan and it will be third time lucky,” said Kirsti.
Julie was still planning to set off to the Lake District today with her four-year-old granddaughter Aria Taylor-Bates who had been upset that the wedding had to be postponed “because she was excited to stay in a big hotel.”
They were looking forward to a one night stay at the Glenridding Hotel.
