A hearse was scheduled to make its way up to Honister today before the funeral of Celia Taylor Weir, who died recently, aged 77.
Mrs Taylor Weir was being taken on one last trip to Honister Slate Mine where she had worked as a guide for many years.
The hearse was due to be accompanied by Honister Land Rovers carrying family members.
The funeral and burial was scheduled to take place at 12.45pm today at Borrowdale church.
Mrs Taylor Weir, who lived at Troutbeck, had been diagnosed with cancer in September.
The great-grandmother is survived by her children, Joe, Dawn and Michelle and their families.
The mine is now run by Joe and Jan Wilkinson, the partner of Celia’s other son, Mark, who reopened the slate mine after buying it in 1986 but died in a helicopter crash near there in 2011.
The family plans to hold a memorial service for Mrs Taylor Weir next year when coronavirus restrictions on the number of mourners at funerals are lifted.
