The gym at Keswick Leisure Pool is set to reopen on 2nd January after being shut since the start of lockdown in March.
But there is still no firm news on the reopening of the pool itself as Allerdale Borough Council, which owns the centre, say it does not allow for swimmers being spaced out during busy periods to meet social distancing guidelines.
A council spokesman said: “Before reopening the popular gym, work will be carried out to install new flooring, improve the gym layout and make the site COVID-secure.
“The decision on when it is safe to reopen will be reviewed in line with any changes to the government advice.
“The pool closure will also allow for some essential maintenance works to be carried out.”
The centre is owned by Allerdale and run on its behalf by Better which operates leisure centres across the county.
Members of Keswick Leisure Pool will continue to be able to use activities at all Better-operated facilities for the foreseeable future, while the Keswick centre is not fully open.
