A North Lakes chef was cooking on gas as he completed an unsupported Bob Graham Round.
Keswick Athletic Club ultra distance runner Mingma Tshering Sherpa, 37, finished at Moot Hall last Tuesday after steaming round the 66-mile circuit of 42 Lake District fells in 22 hours and 13 minutes.
Mingma said he wanted to keep the achievement “quiet and simple” and so the only person cheering him back into Market Square around 5.10pm was his wife Jill.
In preparation, Mingma had completed all 214 Wainwright fells over 18 days. He had previously completed the round in summer conditions in 21 hours.
“I was looking at completing it (this time) in 23 hours,”said Mingma, who is Nepalese and came to Keswick seven years ago.
He said he found it tough from Honister to Dale Head.
“I was quite prepared mentally,” said Mingma, who works at the The Lingholm Estate, Portinscale.
“The weather was perfect especially during the night with the moon making it look like day time,” he added.
The Bob Graham Round is named after a Keswick guest house owner who in 1932 completed the circuit, which includes 26,900ft of ascent in under 24 hours.
More than 2,000 people have now done it. The record time is 12hr 52m.
