A team of gorillas from Keswick’s Kong Adventure went bananas on the Lake District fells at the weekend by setting a blistering pace over the Bob Graham Round.
Ten runners demonstrated that they were not monkeying around when they covered the 66-mile circuit, visiting 42 summits and completing 27,000ft of climbing, in an impressive 14 hours and 36 minutes.
Their exhausting efforts have helped to raise more than £1,000 to support the Calvert Trust’s Lakes centre at Bassenthwaite which had been under the threat of closure.
The team, which also featured three people on rope support at Broad Stand – a classic scrambling route on Scafell – all work for Kong either in the Heads Road shop, at the climbing wall or in the manufacturing side building climbing walls.
The runners ranged in ability from elite world class runners to some who have never raced on the fells before.
Three out of the five legs were run in perfect conditions, bright sunshine and a temperature of roughly 5 degrees.
However, leg one started at 5am with the temperature at that time being -5 degrees while the runners on leg four encountered snow storms while running over Steeple and Grey Knott.
