A video showing Keswick and the surrounding areas in the past and today and accompanied by a newly composed song, has been created by Mike and John Pearson.
Mike created a video montage of the town and he worked with John, who lives in south east Spain, to compose the music to accompany the video.
Mike and John Pearson moved to Keswick around 1970.
Mike worked for the Forestry Commission at Whinlatter Centre before running his own photography business, Mikes-eye, in Keswick.
John worked for the National Trust in Borrowdale and lived in Threlkeld.
Both are now retired but Mike continues his work as a photographer and videographer in Keswick.
The music and video were written and produced in February/March this year.
The Pearsons were resident in Keswick in the early 70s.
John was well known for playing gigs in the town and the Blue Box theatre by the lake.
Mike was a keen amateur photographer who eventually became the Mike of Mike’s-Eye. He also ran a gallery at Uldale for a few years and the photo shop opposite Fishers before retiring.
They have been collaborating in creating songs and videos to help entertain during the lockdowns.
Lyrics of The Planet
The Planet (Now & Then)
Now Now, year 21 of the 21st Century
Then Then there were the days of joy & misery
How How they denied dangers unforseen, green
When When now we can’t survive without
blue screens and vaccines
If If we went back in time prophesizing signs
But We’d be locked up & fined so we can’t go back
We thought we owned the planet, ha
It was the other way around
So when we made it to the summit
We could see that it was a long way down
Sometimes Sometimes were all fine & hunky dory
Other times Other times we’re told lies in fake news stories
Now Now we live dreams but nature gets tortured
Then Then we made plans for futures well ordered
Swim To swim from the seas to make trains & cars & then
Fly Then fly through evolution to far away stars
But we sailed beyond the limit
And our ships all ran aground
So when we flew up to the summit
We could see what the fools had found
You You know the now but question the past
I I know the answer – your future cannot last
Live To live to worship fleeting technologicals
Die And die like steel to rust, just mechanicals
Now Now animals R us, fast biting dust
Then Luxuries, then profound, were the upside of down
We thought we owned the planet, ha
It was the other way around
So when we made it to the summit
We could see that ’twas a long way down
