Hunter Hall – Cumbria’s only independent primary school – is launching an exciting new initiative for 2021 – The Kirk Global Scholarship Award Programme.
Comprising three scholarships in total, the programme aims to help more children benefit from a Hunter Hall education and to take advantage of everything this Times top 100 listed prep school has to offer.
The 2021/22 Awards includes a major award worth 30 per cent of school tuition fees and two minor awards of 10 per cent.
The programme is open to all children entering Year 5 in September 2021, and scholarships run for the duration of Year 5 and 6.
The school is keen to hear from families around Cumbria whose children would benefit from the opportunities on offer at Hunter Hall.
The successful candidates will need to show a passion for learning, recognise their responsibility as a global citizen and demonstrate considerable academic potential to do well in core school subjects, as well as interest and ability in sport and/or music.
Scholarship Exams take place on Friday 14 May 2021 and the deadline for registration is Saturday 7 May.
Headteacher Donna Vinsome said: “We’ve had a long-held ambition here to create a scholarship programme to support more families as they seek out the best primary education to suit their individual child’s needs.
“The Kirk Global Scholarship Award’has been named in loving memory of Peter Kirk, our former chair of governors.
“He was passionate about education and the difference it could make to a child’s life and future.
“Coming from modest beginnings, he immediately recognised the value of education and was keen that as many children as possible had access to it.
“He wanted children to have an appreciation of their school and the world in which they live, taking responsibility for their actions in making a positive impact on the world around them.
“Education equals empowerment and this scholarship programme embodies his beliefs. We’re all looking forward to meeting local families and their children who may become our very first ‘scholars’. “
The Scholarship Programme joins another new practical initiative for 2021 – a morning bus service using the school’s own minibus so that routes can be tailored to families’ needs.
It is hoped that the route will service a radius of around 15-20 miles and has been borne out of several enquires asking about the possibility of offering school transport.
In turn, these two additions join a raft of other services inclusive of fees and available to families including the following:
- Daily homework club and additional after school extra-curricular clubs offered daily from 3.30pm till 4.30pm including afternoon snack.
- Extended after school care daily until 5.30pm
- Exam preparation for senior school run after school for Year 5
- A full, live, teacher-led curriculum offered via Virtual School for distance learning when required.
In addition:
- Flexible daily breakfast club is available from 7.45am
- Additional clubs run by qualified external teachers and coaches including tennis, cricket, LAMDA, music lessons and football are also available for a small extra fee.
With superb teacher pupil ratios for children aged 3-11, this plucky small school is known for its ability to deliver face-to-face, highly tailored and individualised teaching, plus excellent pastoral care for each of its pupils.
Now as a new exciting academic year looms large on the horizon, staff and pupils alike are thrilled at the prospect of reaching out further to those in the local community and sharing their school with the very first Hunter Hall Scholars.
