A small number of cases of the Indian variant of coronavirus have been confirmed in Cumbria, health bosses said.
Colin Cox, Cumbria’s director of public health, said a small number of cases have been found in South Cumbria.
No more information is available at this time.
Mr Cox said: “As of today we have had cases of the Indian variant in Cumbria. At this stage we have only just received the results this morning.”
It is believed the Indian variant is faster spreading than the current dominant strain of coronavirus.
Cases have already been confirmed across the North West, but the Government said there was increasing confidence that the vaccine remains effective.
