Vandalism at a prime lakeside location in Keswick has been condemned by a business owner who had to clean up the “carnage” left behind by partying youngsters.
Hundreds of booze bottles were smashed on the foreshore of the Isthmus by youths who also damaged new canoes bought during lockdown.
Pete Price, managing director of Keswick Canoe and Bush Craft in Lake Road, arrived at work on Saturday morning to discover the “depressing” mess.
He spent more than two hours cleaning up before a children’s party and, with his staff, collected 12 bin bags of rubbish.
A young girl paddling in the area on bank holiday Monday cut her foot on a shard of glass that had not been picked up.
“There were footprints and dints in all my boats and smashed bottles littering the beach where people like to picnic and paddle in the water. It was just carnage,” said Mr Price.
“This was not tourists. It is depressing to think that it is local youngsters who have done this,” he added.
He has reported the damage to the police and National Trust.
