Keswick’s Kerry Irving and his celebrity pet Max have received another national accolade after impressing pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
Kerry has been named as one of the UK’s Unbreakable heroes for his work which helped others to cope during lockdown.
He had been nominated after communications giant BT asked the public to nominate people who used the internet to make a difference over the last year.
Kerry used social media to livestream daily walks in the Lake District with his springer spaniels Max, Paddy and Harry, into thousands of homes, twice daily throughout the past year.
He now has more than 200,000 followers who he has kept positive by showcasing the walks that he and his dogs have embarked on each day, allowing people to experience the great outdoors from their homes via the internet.
Kerry said: “Luckily I live in such a beautiful place with my three dogs, so all I wanted to do was use the internet to share this with people who have been feeling trapped and suffering with their mental health during lockdown.”
Sophie, whose big hit was Murder on the Dancefloor, teamed up with BT to help find these unsung heroes of lockdown and she delivered the good news to Kerry via a video call to them.
Sophie’s own livestreamed Kitchen Discos were a source of fun and escapism for millions during lockdown.
