Organisers behind Cumbria’s only awards show dedicated to celebrating diversity across the region are encouraging people to get their votes in before the deadline this week.
The Diverse Cumbria Awards are set to take place this year on September 24 at the Halston Hotel in Carlisle. Growing year-on-year since its creation, the annual ceremony is about everyone, and organisers want to encourage not only professionals to attend, but to invite and bring along the people they are working with too.
Nominations are due to close this Wednesday and you can nominate anyone who you think is deserving of some recognition for their work in equality, diversity, and inclusion in and across Cumbria.
Worthy recipients are organisations or individuals working hard to ensure everyone feels included. Nominations are free and can be submitted via the Diverse Cumbria website.
Organiser Ben Vollans said: “I’m so excited for this year’s awards! Even with all the other events I do, this is still the highlight of my year. I still can’t believe it’s been going for five years now. But I’ve made this year extra special with a live performance from Danny Dunnery and his band.
“Nominations from the public are a big part of the awards, we can’t know everything that is going on in the county, so feedback and nominations from you, the public, are vitally important. They take less than two minutes to fill out.”
Nine awards up for grabs
This year Ben has added in a few extra awards bringing the total to nine. Award categories include:
- Business Champion
- Diversity Event of the Year
- Educational Champion
- Organisation Champion
- Positive Role Model
- Positive Young Person
- Public Sector Champion
- Volunteer Champion
- Lifetime Achievement Award
