An outdoor education charity based near Keswick has launched online fieldwork sessions in geography and science to support teachers help parents with children stuck during the Covid-19 lockdown.
The Field Studies Council, which runs the Blencathra Outdoor Learning Centre at Threlkeld, has teamed up with global learning provider Encounter Edu to create the series of free, online fieldwork sessions which start on Monday 20th April.
The lessons in geography and science fieldwork will be delivered live by expert tutors through YouTube and will be suitable for KS2 (7-11 years) primary children, KS3 (11-14 years), KS4 GCSE (14-16 years) and KS5 A Level (16-18 years) students.
The #fieldworklive session will run for two weeks until Friday 1st May and will be supported by resource packs which teachers can use to help prepare students for the live lessons and follow-up webinars for teachers.
For primary KS2 children, the fieldwork lessons will focus on soil, habitat and creative exploration, while Key Stage 3 sessions will look at weather, climate and freshwater ecosystems, and KS4 GCSE students (aged 14-16) investigate quality of life in urban areas and coastal management. The sessions for students progressing between GCSE studies and A-Levels will look at rocky shore ecology, hydrology and flooding, as well as investigating places.
