A group of runners from Keswick’s Kong Adventure Centre will attempt to complete the Bob Graham Round – dressed as gorillas.
The 10 runners will attempt the feat on Saturday as a paired relay and are aiming to complete the challenge in under 15 hours.
They are raising cash for the Lake District Calvert Trust, which has been brought to the brink of closure during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A spokesman for the group said: “Running the relay dressed as gorillas will hopefully heighten public awareness of their plight and give everyone a little laugh too.
“Lake District Calvert Trust has been welcoming guests with disabilities to their centre in Bassenthwaite for nearly 45 years, so that they can enjoy the benefits of incredible, outdoor adventures in a safe and accessible, yet challenging environment.
“The pandemic left a £1 million gap in its income.
“Once this pandemic is over the ‘Calvert experience’ will be needed more than ever, not only by their current visitors but also by the many people affected by COVID-19 and the impact it has had on everyone’s lives, health and wellbeing.
“As a staff team, we are passionate about the outdoors and making our wonderful playground accessible to all.”
