A member of Keswick Mountain Rescue Team came to the rescue of his own son on Saturday after he was knocked unconscious during a mountain bike ride.

The accident happened shortly before 1.20pm on Whinlatter’s red south trail loop with the rescuer realising it was his son when his first name and date of birth was given in a police message.

An RAF mountain rescue team who were training in the area also attended with the man having regained consciousness.

He was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, but later discharged and credits his full face helmet – rather than an open face helmet – for saving him from more serious injuries.

His dad said: “You never stop worrying about your kids – even when they’re 42!”
