Woodland management works will be getting underway in the vicinity of the A66 Briery Junction, Keswick, next week.
National Highways will be removing trees that are suffering disease which will eventually leave them in a weaker condition and unsafe.
Contractors from Kier will also be carrying out routine woodland management works to improve the condition of the woodland plots and encourage diversity and fresh growth in the coming years.
Work is expected to begin on Monday February 27 and it is hoped it will be completed by Friday March 17 provided there are no unforeseen circumstances such as adverse weather.
To maintain safety for the travelling public and the contractors, National Highways has applied for temporary traffic restrictions/prohibitions to be in place during the day from Monday to Friday and they are as follows:
- A 40mph speed limit from the A66 Crosthwaite roundabout to Burns Junction;
- Closure of the eastbound entry slip road onto the A66;
- Closure of the lay-by on the A66 eastbound carriageway east of Crosthwaite roundabout.
When the Briery eastbound slip road onto the A66 is closed, traffic will be diverted westbound to Crosthwaite roundabout to take the exit on the eastbound A66. Access to the Low Briery Holiday Park will be maintained throughout the works.
“Every effort will be made to ensure the works are done safely and disruption is kept to a minimum,” said Rachel Osborn, senior environment specialist with National Highway. “However, these works will inevitably generate some noise and we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.”
