Keswick will feature in a new ‘online museum’ which has been launched by Cumbria Film Archive showing an impressive collection of atmospheric photographs and cine film about Cumbria’s.
The free service provides a fascinating alternative for people to see and learn more about Cumbria as a whole and their towns specifically from the comfort of their own homes during the coronavirus lockdown.
In addition to the hundreds of atmospheric photographs there is a ‘cinema’ which will feature a fully researched and narrated film on one particular area of the county’s past each month.
“Two of the main features in this ‘People’s Museum” are the Gallery, which will constantly change as more material is added, and the Movie of the Month, with May’s about the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway.
After taking more than a quarter of a century to gather the material which comes from private collectors and museum, this cache of fascinating photos dating back over a century and film can be viewed at www.cumbriafilmarchive.com
Producer Andrew Leitch said: “The Movie of the Month will also have regular new features. For instance, in May we will have a little documentary about the classic lost railway, the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith line which has been closed for half a century but remains in many people’s memories.
“Thousands of people from all over the county travelled on that beautiful line and I’m sure it will be like a journey into the past when they watch the film which will be screened on the website throughout May,” he added.
The producers will still be having presentations of Cumbria film archive at venues throughout the county once the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions are lifted.
