An air ambulance and mountain rescue team were called to the aid of a 70-year-old man.
A walker on the Watendlath to Rosthwaite path called for mountain rescue when they came across the man who seemed to be very ill shortly before 4pm yesterday.
Poor phone signal meant only the basic details were passed onto the team and two mountain rescue teams set out from their Keswick base.
The first went directly to Watendlath and the second to Rosthwaite in order to do a pincer movement to locate the man.
By the time the Watendlath team had set up the path, they received a call to say the man had made his own way back to the car park.
Acting on the potentially serious information, an air ambulance had already arrived at the scene.
A Keswick team doctor did a quick assessment before handing over to the helicopter team who could do a more thorough check-over using their equipment.
Fourteen team members from Keswick Mountain Rescue Team were involved in the operation.
