A Keswick hotel will host a special mosaic portrait of the Queen to mark the platinum jubilee.
The portrait, made up of 2,450 images of Keswick and Derwentwater, was given to the Queen by the town’s tourism association for her diamond jubilee in 2013 during a visit to the Lake District.
Now, it will take centre stage at the Skiddaw Hotel in the Market Square during the summer.
During 2012, Keswick Tourism Association encouraged visitors, businesses and residents to submit their favourite photos that reflected parts of the town which they love. Submissions included holiday photos of families enjoying the outdoors, scenic views, Cumbrian wildlife and even four-legged friends.
Queen Elizabeth II accepted the gift, but urged the town to keep the mosaic as a token to remind them of the diamond jubilee year.
After spending nine years having pride of place in the Keswick Tourism Association office, the portrait has temporarily relocated to the entrance of the Skiddaw Hotel so visitors to the town can admire the captivating piece throughout the platinum jubilee celebrations.
“Although I do miss seeing the beautiful portrait in the office, I feel excited that Her Majesty’s portrait has the opportunity to be displayed in the centre of Keswick for visitors and locals to appreciate throughout another monumental jubilee year,” said Vanessa Metcalfe, tourism manager at Keswick Tourism Association.
Neels Ferriera, general manager of the hotel, said: “It is an honour that the Skiddaw Hotel has been chosen to accommodate the remarkable portrait”.
