A new neighbourhood policing team inspector has taken over the reins in Keswick and towns and villages throughout Allerdale on a temporary basis.
Inspector Steven Waddell is currently based at Workington police station but he and his team, which includes PCs James Thistlethwaite, Andrea Hobbs and Joshua Brown, now based in Keswick, deal with issues in the community such as anti-social behaviour, licensing and pro-actively targeting repeat offenders.
Insp Waddell said: “More recently we have been heavily involved in the local response to COVID-19, working with partner agencies through the Local Focus Hub to provide advice, guidance and where necessary, enforcement to assist in keeping our communities safe.
“I know the three Keswick officers have spent the last six months building up a relationship with people in the town and hope the local community feel safer having officers deployed in the area should an emergency response be required.
“I would like to take this opportunity to encourage the community to report any issues they have in relation to crime, anti-social behaviour or coronavirus breaches via 101 or [email protected] to help myself and my team deal with them.”
Insp Waddell has been a police officer in Cumbria for seven years and prior to that a special constable with Police Scotland for two years.
He spent four years as a response officer covering both Allerdale and Copeland and knows the area well.
He was promoted to sergeant in 2017 and has spent three years in that role covering Allerdale, Copeland and Carlisle.
